The impact of sexual assault on Nigerian media personality and actress Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo1, has raised serious concerns about the vulnerability of even those working in media houses to such acts. Lolo1 recently opened up about her traumatic experience of sexual assault by a male colleague in the broadcasting industry.

In a candid revelation, Lolo1 shared that she was raped by a co-worker six years ago, and that experience continues to haunt her to this day. During a recent episode of the ‘Say My Piece’ podcast, co-hosted with Ogbolor, the actress, best known for her role in Jenifa’s Diary, mentioned that she was not yet ready to disclose the full details of the incident for personal reasons.

She also spoke about the lasting trauma associated with the assault, describing the emotional toll it has taken on her life. “I see him every day, and I get into this momentary panic mode. I’ve had self-crucifixion many times, often blaming myself for how I allowed it to happen,” she said, highlighting the mental and emotional struggles she continues to face.

Lolo1, who holds a law degree and initially gained recognition for her entertaining use of pidgin English as a broadcaster, began her career as an On-Air Personality (OAP) at WASOBIA FM before moving on to work at Lasgidi FM. Her ability to connect with her audience through humor and relatability has made her a household name, but behind the scenes, she has struggled with the traumatic aftermath of the assault.

Her bravery in sharing her story sheds light on the broader issue of sexual harassment and assault within the media industry, urging conversations around protection, accountability, and the well-being of those in the profession.
